The Minimatt Busking Stage 2017-06-05T22:25:37+00:00
The Minimatt Busking Stage
Festival 8 is delighted to be working with Minimatt again on our newest stage area.   Tucked behind the old granary, next door to the Salon, this intimate playing space is usually the birthplace of many surprising festival entertainments.  Last year we had a delightful visit from, internet sensations, Phat Bollard.  We have seen comedy and prose, music and song.  It’s another part of the festival that embodies the spirit of ‘we are the festival’; as we like to say, Festival 8, Particip8!
The Minimatt Busking Stage is a place for all new talent across many genres. Enjoy a range of artists, musicians, poets & spoken word performers. The stage is also open-mic at certain times, so if you have your own instrument and want to play, roughly three to four songs / performances, come along and put your name down. Last year we had so much amazing talent it was hard to fit everyone in. We operate on a ‘first come first served basis’ and we will do our best to accommodate everyone. We will have a range of pre-booked artists playing on Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday as well as running the open mic sessions.

Chris Cooper Band

ChrisCooperBand are an Indie/Folk/Rock band originally from Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire.

They began playing as a group in 2010 after Darryl Ebbatson and Chris Cooper released Chris’s first studio album ‘Harbour’ the same year and the accompanying tour with Simon Barley adding to the sound on keyboards received good responses from several radio and media outlets including BBC Radio Humberside, BBC Introducing, Kawshaw Radio and St. Heliers Music Crowns London.

With a sets worth of brand new songs in the bag the band have undertaken some low-key acoustic gigs including the ‘Northern Sky’ acoustic festival on the bill with Richard Hawley in September and support for Andy White in December 2016 to introduce these new tracks before a more extensive tour early in 2017 with the addition of Chris Logan on loan from Ramble Gamble on double bass to coincide with the release of their new album ‘The Glorious Sins’ in Summer 2017.

Quarter Past Blue

‘It sounds very much like spy music. I could see this in a soundtrack to a movie with a spy in it about to capture the bad guy or perhaps in a montage of getting ready to fight’y

‘This song is… interesting to say the least. The guitar progression makes it seem like distorted circus music’

‘Good old fashioned rock with blues overtones’

Pete & His Sonic Machines

Experimental Sonic Machines is Peter K Rollings’ solo music act with home made instruments & costumes, based at Lincoln.

Effectively a duo though, for he is usually accompanied by robot drummer Ernie.

All ESM’s music is original, based around homemade electromechanical sequencers using paper discs as programs.

There’s a set of original songs, but it can tangent off into improvisation – no two gigs are the same.
